The ex-voto is above all a practice, that of asking or giving thanks. Votive practice has always been part of popular and religious cultures around the world. It is materialized by different types of objects. All these objects, intended to be placed in places of worship, are the material testimonies of very ancient practices, on the border between magic and religion. Those from the Mucem collection are the starting point for the subject of this workshop as a historical and conceptual introduction.
The students collaborate in a mixed team (inter-country) to co-create samples of materials, clothing, and accessories that respond to this concept and that highlight one of the know-how of the Mediterranean basin.
The objective: to create a piece of clothing or an accessory designed as an ex-voto. The piece becomes sacred, an amulet, a lucky charm carrying a message.
The artisanal production of the piece: it is a question of highlighting both the conceptual axis and a vision in each creation thanks to the chosen artisanal production method.
The message: appropriate the codes and language of the ex-votos present in the Mucem collections to create your own message.
Itinérance lists each year the different "dreams/wishes" of students from each country in a dense social, political and ecological context.
— Make students aware of the traditional know-how of their countries in order to pass them on.
— Discover the ecological and social issues of fashion, promote local cultures. Creating meaning in a global world.
— Co-create with others, experiment with a local and horizontal creative approach and engage in dialogue with several Mediterranean countries.
